An "artistic" island tour - Naoshima (直島)

I went for a trip in Okayama and Takamatsu last few weeks. The purpose is to visit Setouchi Triennale 2013, which is a international art festival, held in 12 islands of Seto Inland Island, Takamatsu and Uno. There're about 210 artists from 24 countries and regions participating in this event. I knew about this art festival after being told by a friend, who's working in one of the art site. I visited some of art sites in Naoshima, Teshima and Inujima. SInce it's an island trip, I moved from one island to another by ferry and boats, so t's important to make sure the time schedule of the ferry or boats you're going to take.

I spent only  2 days to travel around Naoshima, Teshima and Inujima. The photo below is the port of Naoshima.

Can you spot the big red pumpkin with polka dots ? As the ferry pulled in the port, you could see the big pumpkin artwork from the ferry.

Close-up of the red pumpkin. It is the artwork by Yayoi Kusama (草間 彌生), who's a very famous artist and writer in Japan. There is another yellow pumpkin, which is a bit far from here,  since we didn't have enough time, we're not able to see it.

First thing to do as we arrived, rented a bicycle, around 500 yen. It was a rainy day, they lend us the raincoat as well.

This is an photo gallery.

This is a public bath house called " I love Yu" (I♥湯), nice name! It's created by Shinro Ohtake,   湯 means hot water in Japanese, also means hot bath/ spring. You can enjoy bathing inside this piece of artwork.

It gave an adrenaline rush riding down the slope at high speed with the wind smashing on face, whew..

Some art works along the way we passed by.

The big Tong Sampah

Chi chu art museum, since photographing is prohibited inside most of the art sites, if you want to see more photos and know more about the museum you can check out their website.

Came to a cafe inside the art museum with a great sea view, though the food here is a little expensive.

Here is where we had our dinner. Better to go for your dinner before 8pm, since most of the shops here close quite early.

Finally we had a proper meal today, These are our food (定食)

Next destination: Teshima.

To be continued...
